Deetz’s Story!
Name: Deetz
Breed: American Quarter Horse
Color: Bay
Height: 14.1 hands
Sex: Gelding
Arrival: Spring 2011
DOB: December 27, 2001
Deetz comes from a long line of reining and cutting horses and was accustomed to hard work. In fact, he performed as a rodeo horse where his job was to race around the arena while cowboys shot off their guns during the show!
This beautiful Bay was then sold to owners who used him for jumping until they noticed he was in pain. Unfortunately, this led them to discover a fractured bone in his leg. When Deetz’s owners found Hope Reins, they knew instinctively that despite his potential for lameness, he would be fantastic as a partner in healing for kids.
If Deetz had a theme song it would be “Lean on Me.” Deetz is able to make space for the pain of those in his herd (human or equine), thereby helping them to persevere through anything. His impressive physical presence and wise eyes seem to convey, “Don’t worry. I’ve got you.” For his friends, Deetz is a mentor whose compassionate wisdom and strength engender feelings of safety and trust.
Deetz is the “chief” of the herd at Hope Reins, but is definitely gentle and fun for the kids.
Fun Fact: Deetz also is the class clown of Hope Reins. He will play kickball in the arena and pick up anything with his mouth because of his curiosity.
