Caleb’s Story!

Name: Caleb
Breed: Registered Appaloosa
Color: Dun
Height: 14.2 hands
Sex: Gelding
Arrival: Spring 2021
DOB: 2006

After losing all of his herd mates to old age, Caleb lived with his loving human owners in Wilmington but was very lonely.

Caleb’s owners recognized that horses are social animals and should never be expected to live their lives alone. When they discovered Hope Reins, they knew it would not only provide Caleb the companionship he desperately needed, but also that God could use Caleb for greater purposes. “We are only stewards of what God provides for us,” says Amy, one of Caleb’s owners. “We want to use what he’s given us to accomplish something that matters.”

Caleb is the truest of friends. He fully believes with his whole heart that he can be a friend to all – equine and human alike. He is smart, curious and playful, with no inhibitions or worries about connection. Because of these remarkable personality traits, Caleb has a special ability to engage with kids who might be shy or apprehensive.

Caleb’s story resonates with kids who face loss such as the death of a parent. Bereaved kids build grief-processing skills while learning how to cope and understand their feelings. Caleb shows them that, despite heartache, you can build resilience and learn to love again like he has with his new herd at Hope Reins.
