They Came to Heal. They Leave Ready to Lead.
On Friday, June 26, we celebrated a milestone I will never forget: our very first Hope Reins graduation.
These graduates have completed the final step of our program pathway, and we gathered to recognize the growth God has brought in their lives through the resilience skills of trust, communication, boundaries, and leadership.
Before the ceremony, each graduate shared a meaningful moment with their mentor and added their handprint to a mural at the ranch — a beautiful way to commemorate their journey and leave their mark on Hope Reins.
Then, surrounded by their families and mentors in Cameron’s Arena, we celebrated with a processional, keynote address, certificates presented to each graduate, and a final prayer over the class.
One parent beautifully described what this journey has meant for her family:
“What has Hope Reins meant for me?
Hope Reins has meant hope, solace, gratitude, and healing. Most importantly, it meant I no longer had to watch my son try to carry the weight of the world and his struggles alone.
While Mason refused every other form of therapy, he found strength in the eyes—eye in Zeb’s case—of a horse who was just as lost and scared as he was.
Mason chose Zeb, a Clydesdale-Mustang mix and former police horse who had lost his sense of purpose. During his early sessions with Zeb and Whitney, Mason would quietly sit with him, petting and hugging him. Within a couple of months, the trust they built together allowed Mason to ride Zeb. Under Whitney’s guidance, Mason learned to lead Zeb over obstacles without bits or bridles, relying instead on trust, patience, and love. Whitney became more than a mentor; she became someone Mason felt safe with, someone he could truly talk to.
When Zeb lost an eye, he was forced to learn how to navigate an entirely new world. Mason witnessed Zeb’s unwavering strength, resilience, and ability to adapt in the face of challenges. In turn, Mason learned patience. Although Mason was unable to ride Zeb while he heald—his favorite thing to do—he dedicated himself to helping rebuild Zeb’s confidence and trust.
Each year Hope Reins has provided more than therapy. It has offered a network of mentors, friends, and a community centered on healing. It is a place where vulnerability is met with compassion rather than judgment or bullying. It is a place where young people like Mason, who have endured pain that many adults never experience, can find understanding. It is a community that lifts you up, walks beside you, and makes you feel safe.
As a parent, Hope Reins has given me the space to grieve the life my son has had to endure while knowing he is receiving the help and support he needs. It means I am not alone in watching my son struggle. It means there are people who see him, believe in him, and care for him.
It means I can finally breathe, and for this I cannot thank you enough. You have my deepest gratitude.”
This graduation ceremony was a sacred and joyful reminder of what your generosity makes possible.
Because of you, children in crisis are not only finding hope and healing — they are growing in resilience, stepping into purpose, and carrying what they have learned into the world.
