The Ache is Subsiding.
I’d like to share with you insights from Dr. Bruce Perry, an adolescent psychiatrist and neuroscientist, who has spent over 30 years helping thousands of children who were victims of trauma.
“After absorbing so much abuse and neglect, a child begins to ache from these painful experiences,” says Dr. Perry. “A deep longing to feel needed, validated, and valued begins to take hold.”
He goes on to say that as the child grows, if this ache isn’t addressed, what often follows is a complicated, frustrating pattern of self- sabotage, violence, promiscuity, or addiction.
Friend, this is such a powerful explanation of how you change the lives of the kids at Hope Reins: You supplant the ‘ache’ with the trust, acceptance and love of a horse, mentor and Jesus Christ.
You change the trajectory of their lives by building their resiliency muscle!
Alyssa (shown above with Sammy) is now 15 years old.
She suffered profoundly and frequently in her young life at the hands of her birth mother and other abusive males—until she was adopted at age 6 by a loving family.
It’s no surprise that Sammy ‘chose’ Alyssa as his partner because he, too, was ‘adopted’ from a dreadfully abusive place—a kill pen.
Today, Alyssa, her mentor Jennifer, and Sammy begin a journey of healing together that’s only possible because of your generous, big heart!
“Alyssa came out of her session last week grinning from ear to ear and chatted the entire hour it takes to get home!” says her mom.
On behalf of Alyssa, her thankful family, and all of us at Hope Reins,
THANK YOU!
Have a great weekend.
