Ruka was rescued from a herd of emaciated horses discovered just outside Charleston, South Carolina. The rescue group knew she was the worst case of all the horses, and they worked feverishly to save the skeletal mare.

Thankfully, in an amazing turn of events, Ruka survived. And, despite her severe neglect, she bore none of the bitterness or mistrust so often found in horses who have suffered as she did.

Ruka has an innate willingness to trust, and this beautiful, soulful girl is one of the most popular angels in horsehair at Hope Reins.

Ru is our sweetest and most obedient horse, but she has a lot of anxiety and worry. She lives her life hiding herself and her feelings deep inside and has a hard time sharing herself with people. Her way of staying safe is to remain in control. She really ministers to kids who are shut down, struggle with anxiety and hide from others. Ru is deeply understanding and can stand with kids with a lot of tenderness and kindness.
